When should a permit be pulled and who should pull it.

Most electrical work beyond replacing a fixture or a device needs a permit and an inspection. New circuits, panel and service changes, EV chargers, hot tub feeds, remodels, additions — all permitted work. Swapping a light fixture, replacing a switch or receptacle like-for-like, or changing a breaker for the same size generally isn’t.
That’s the rule of thumb. The reason it matters isn’t paperwork.
Your electrician. A licensed contractor pulls the permit under their license, meets the inspector, and carries responsibility for any correction. When a contractor asks the homeowner to pull the permit instead, that’s worth paying attention to — it quietly moves the liability from them to you.
For most residential work there are two visits: a rough-in inspection while the walls are still open, and a final once everything is trimmed out and energized. We schedule both, meet the inspector if needed, and handle any corrections ourselves. From your side it should be completely uneventful — which is the point.
Ask. Describe the job in our request form and we’ll tell you honestly whether it’s permit work — including the times it isn’t. We’d rather answer the question for free than have you discover the answer during a home sale.
Describe what’s going on and Bobby will come back with a straight answer — usually the same day.
