Bobby & Maria Matthews · Est. 2012
A licensed master electrician and the operations mind who keeps every job on schedule. No rotating crews, no strangers.

Our story
Essential Electric is a locally owned, independent electrical contractor — not a franchise or a corporate chain — focused on high-quality residential and commercial electrical work without high-pressure sales or unnecessary upselling. Being a long-standing Colorado Springs electrician means we understand local homes, regional building codes, permit requirements, and the specific electrical needs of properties throughout El Paso County. We care about our customers, deliver quality electrical solutions, do what we say we will do — on schedule, with quality, and on quote — and charge reasonable prices. We have the knowledge and experience to get the job done right the first time, and we stand behind our work. Residential, commercial, and troubleshooting: new construction, remodels, design, service, repairs, and everything in between. We are big enough to do the job and small enough to care.
01
Bobby came up through the trade — apprentice to master electrician to construction manager — before Essential Electric ever had a name. Today it's 40+ years, and there isn't much he hasn't wired, fixed, or figured out.
02
Construction management kept Bobby on the road for weeks at a time. In 2012 we chose home over the highway — our own company, our own standards, right here in Colorado Springs.
03
Fair prices, real answers, and customers who become neighbors, friends, and referrals. Big enough to do the job — small enough to care.

Leadership
Bobby leads every job, with a trusted crew on larger projects.

Licensed master electrician with 40+ years in residential, commercial, industrial, and solar work.
Bobby is the founder, CEO, and licensed master electrician of Essential Electric. He started in the electrical trade as an apprentice and worked his way to master electrician and construction manager — and along the way he longed to serve customers on his own terms with the myriad of skills he had developed. Essential Electric was conceived as a business that would put the customer first and operate with integrity, quality, excellence, and reliability.
Bobby brings insight developed through 40+ years of working on every kind of residential, commercial, industrial, and even solar project to create individualized solutions for each customer.
Outside of business, Bobby enjoys volunteering in the community, four-wheeling, kayaking, tinkering on home projects, and spending quality time with his wife. His vision for Essential Electric is to provide quality service at a reasonable price while building relationships.

Maria is co-founder, COO, and CFO of Essential Electric. After working 23 years in Fortune 100 companies, Maria was ready for a change from the corporate environment. She brought her experience as a seasoned executive in program and project management to organize the business side and processes of Essential Electric. She assists with leadership, strategic direction, operational oversight, and company finances — and is also Bobby’s wife.
In her spare time, Maria enjoys anything that involves being outdoors: scuba diving, cycling, hiking in our beautiful mountains, volunteering throughout the community, and enjoying time with her husband, especially watching sunsets. Her vision for Essential Electric is to be a trusted partner known for integrity, superior customer service, and operational excellence.

What guides us
We wanted to name the company Integrity Electric — the name was taken, but we kept the meaning. Honest recommendations and pricing, quality work, no upsells.
Appointments kept, schedules met, quotes that hold. If something changes, you hear it from us first — not from silence.
Our faith shapes how we treat people. Every home and business gets the same respect we’d want in ours — we keep a clean, organized job site, clean up after ourselves, and leave things better than we found them. And we want more than one job with you: we want to be the electrician you call for years to come.
Everything we build is safe and to code — no shortcuts. We take pride in the details and in personalized solutions built for your home or business that last. And if something isn’t right, we come back and make it right.
Giving back
Giving back is one of our values. Part of what this company earns goes right back out — close to home and around the world — and we choose partnerships that reflect what we believe. We take an active part in nonprofit organizations and community programs, because strong local businesses help build strong communities. We’re glad to support Woodmen Valley Chapel, Military Community Youth Ministries, Compassion International, Show Hope, World Vision, and PastorServe. We don’t do it for recognition — it’s simply part of how we operate.
